Order of the Oak

Affectionately known as the Telephone Dial, this is the Barony’s oldest and highest award. It is only awarded twice a year to the person who has contributed to the Barony in the most positive and influential manner. It would be equivalent to a Leaf of Merit.

Oak Tree of Service

An oak tree on a black and gold ribbon is awarded only four times a year for service to the Barony as an officer or autocrat of Baronial activities.

Oak Tree of War

An oak tree on a white ribbon with black stripe is awarded four times a year for outstanding war prowess and/or being instrumental in the furtherance of the arts of war. This award is not limited to fighters.

Oak Tree of Enrichment

An oak tree on a black ribbon with a white stripe is awarded four times a year for improving the Barony in a very visual or novel way in the Arts and/or Sciences.

Baron’s & Baroness’ Coils of Esteem

The Baron’s Coil of Esteem is a gold coil on a blue and white ribbon. The Baroness’ Coil of Esteem is a silver coil on a blue and white ribbon. Each are awarded at any Baronial court for making the Baron and/or Baroness’ job easier. The recipient can be anyone who has helped make the Barony flow, but must be an excellent example to the populace. This award can be given to the same deserving person multiple times.

Baron’s & Baroness’ Toils of Esteem

The Baron’s & Baroness’ Toils of Esteem is a white pearl crescent moon between two black beads on a red wire twisted into loops at both ends. They are awarded at any Baronial court to members of the populace who make a habit of doing behind the scenes labor which benefits the Barony, and who provide a good example to the populace.

Baronial Company of Archers

The award is a black and white hood, won by the highest scoring non-hood shooter (meeting the minimum) in a Royal Round during one of the two Baronial Archery Tournaments.

Baronial Captain of Archers

Awarded the title Captain of Archers, the recipient serves as the Captain of the Baronial Company of Archers. Must be the highest hood score at the Royal Round during a Baronial Archery Tournament.

War Lord of Darkwood

Awarded a Baron’s or Baroness’ Favour and entitled to wear special headgear and surcoat. Must meet the requirements of Captain of Darkwood and be able to train war units at all practices, lead the Huscarls at wars, and advise the Baron on all aspects of war. Selected by the Baron based on proven knowledge of warfare, tactics, leadership, training, and communication abilities.

Huscarl

Awarded a Baron’s or Baroness’ Favour and entitled to wear special headgear and surcoat. Must be a heavy or light fighter who can attend a majority of the Baronial wars and be a model of chivalry. Huscarls are the personal army of the Baron.

Pages’ Ceremonial Escourt

Awarded by recommendation of the Page School of Darkwood from the ranks of pages who have reached a level of competence to allow them to serve at Baronial Ceremonial activities. Must be a model of SCA virtue and responsibility.

Blaedgesith

(blade-ye’sith)
Awarded by the Baroness to someone who, unsought and unexpected, brought brilliance to Darkwood, and Her duty. it recognizes those who not only shine as examples of those virtues which the Society holds dear, but approach their chosen forms of art, service and fighting with such enthusiasm, ferocity and joy, that their company inspires the Baroness to greater efforts and endeavors. The award token is an item displaying a piece of the Baroness’ heraldry (For Baroness Brid: argent goutty d’sange, drops of blood on silver).
